Recurring Piha Floods

For my blog, I have decided to cover the recurring floods in Piha, particularly on Glenesk Road. The road tracks the floor of Piha valley and, from end to end, a creek runs alongside it. The floods are the result of the creek overflowing. I lived on Glenesk Road for three years, and my downstairs room flooded four times while I was there. The most serious of these floods took place in February of this year. The flood claimed the lives of 2 people upstream near Cascade Falls.

I aim to show the effect these events have had on the residents of the community and also document their plan of action with regards to future floods. I’ve heard through word of mouth that some residents are attempting to implement precautionary measures so that the creek is less likely to overflow. Over the next week, I plan on talking to the people who are spearheading this issue and hopefully I can come back with some particulars.
